We need a term for that thing marketers’ do where they/we make up a term for basic marketing activities and frameworks then try to make it a movement and build their company or personal brand off of it.
It’s gotta be a term that seems specific, but actually means nothing on its own. Better if is hyphened to the word “growth”. Bonus points if it’s an acronym and you make a conference out of it.
JUST KIDDING Hubspot. But seriously, this is all your fault: you started it!
Nah, let’s not point fingers, because at this point we’re all to blame. Luckily, since we made ‘em, we’re GREAT at compiling a comprehensive list of the cringiest marketing terms (which we’ve all used and still use and can’t stop using, HELP PLEASE)…
Before we digress…
Here’s the latest episode showcasing the worst marketing buzzwords and a slightly serious discussion of why they’re a problem.
Words like: Nearbound. Funnel (and all it’s acronym’ed stages). SQL/MQL. Thought leadership. Snackable. Gamification. Persona. Viral.
Anything-led growth.
Dark social.
Phygital (yeah we know, we didn’t believe it at first either).
CONTENT 🤮
(Side note: Our producers tallied all the times we said Content in S1 & S2 and compiled a bonus episode to show us how naughty we’ve been. Kinda funny, might delete later.)
(Side note: Erin made a really great podcast called The Notorious Thought Leader, which recently went off-air but has a library of episodes you can binge.)
If you’ve made it this far…
Sorry.
Thank you.
We hope you’re ok.
If so, then you’re ready for the next level:
Love you bunches,
❤️ Devin & Margaret
